Kia Auto Service in Tri-Cities

Kia vehicles offer strong everyday value, especially for commuters, families, and drivers who want a comfortable vehicle without overcomplicating maintenance. Staying current on oil changes, fluid service, brake repair, cooling system checks, and diagnostics helps prevent small issues from becoming expensive ones.

At 360 Automotive and Repair, we do not treat every warning light like a worst-case scenario. We inspect the symptom, review the vehicle’s service history, and explain the most practical next step based on what we actually find.

Common Issues with Kia Vehicles

These are the repairs that actually come through our bays on Kia vehicles

High Frequency

Optima, Sorento, Sportage (2011–2021) — Theta II Engine Failure

The same 2.0L and 2.4L Theta II engine used in Hyundai vehicles runs through multiple Kia models and carries the same documented manufacturing defect. Metallic debris from crankshaft machining can restrict oil flow, accelerate bearing wear, and lead to connecting rod failure. Kia issued recalls and extended warranty coverage for qualifying vehicles — eligibility depends on Knock Sensor Detection System software being active and maintenance records being available.

High Frequency

Kia Soul and Seltos (2021–2023) — Piston Slap and Oil Consumption

Soul and Seltos models from this generation have a documented piston ring defect causing oil consumption and cold-start noise — a knock that occurs when cold-contracted rings allow excessive clearance. This is distinct from the Theta II bearing issue but produces similar symptoms: oil consumption without visible leaks and a cold-start noise that fades as the engine warms up.

Common

Kia Forte and Sportage — DCT Hesitation and Shudder

Kia's dual-clutch transmission is documented for low-speed hesitation and shudder when pulling away from a stop. Software updates resolve it on some vehicles; clutch wear is the cause on higher-mileage examples. Proper diagnosis determines which applies before any repair is recommended.

Common

Kia — Carbon Buildup on Intake Valves (Direct Injection Engines)

Direct injection engines — including most current Kia four-cylinders — are prone to carbon buildup on intake valves over time. Because fuel is injected directly into the cylinder rather than through the intake port, intake valves never receive the fuel wash that keeps them clean on older engines. At higher mileage, buildup causes rough idling, misfires, and reduced power. Intake valve cleaning restores normal operation.
